Namaste to our valued visitors! Things must be going great on that end. We are doing great here in Kathmandu, especially enjoying the 12 hrs of load shedding everyday. The weather is absolutely great with slight increase in the temperature……summer is almost here! Today in our interview segment we have a very talented young film maker - Prashant Rasaily, all the way from Sikkim. He has just finished directing the movie titled ‘Acharya’. It’s a film based on the life of one of the greatest singing legends of yesteryears- Bhajan Shiromani Bhakta Raj Acharya. The movie is about a journey of a musical genius. A true story of determination, struggle and perpetual courage… a journey that promises to turn back the pages of history to tell an untold story of a son, a father, a legend Bhakta Raj Acharya. The most interesting thing about the movie is that the lead role i.e. the role of Bhakta Raj Acharya, in the movie is played by his own son Satya Raj Acharya. Such movies that are being made currently by new generation of directors have really brought some hope to our Nepali audience. The audience is certainly hoping to see something new on the screen other than the same old fashioned stories. Director Prashant Rasaily was also involved in the movie “Kagbeni” as screenplay writer and has also worked in several Bollywood movies as an assistant director. Below are the excerpts of the short conversation that I had with the talented film maker – Prashant about the movie Acharya!

So how did the shootings go?  You must have had fun ….

Well the shoot went well…Slow but uncompromised… “Fun” is what we had all the way…

When is the movie going for the editing? Or is it already on the editing table?

Will begin with the first cut soon… Just taking a break… Chill & Refresh…

How was it working with Satya Raj Acharya? Now you’ve worked with him, what would you like to call him first, an actor or a singer?

Working with Satya was great… Wouldn’t have found anyone better for his dad’s character and he’s done a great job… Well now on, I’ll be calling him a singing actor…

What was the most challenging thing for you in this entire project? …..Was there anything that made you go crazy on the sets?

Every frame was a challenge… and all the challenges, we overcame… At times things did drive me crazy… Some I don’t remember, others I choose not to…

I jus wanted to know, where is it easier to shoot, Nepal or India?

Depends where in India we’re shooting… This time it was pretty much the same… Got help everywhere…

Now tell us about the technical aspect of the movie?

Can’t tell much about the technical stuff… It’s the same gear we’ve used, that’s there in the market and more or less the same locations. It’s a new team, with new ideas and we have our own style of getting things done. We can say it’ll definitively be different, but good or bad, only time can tell…

How is this movie going to be different from the other mainstream Nepali movies?

First of all it’s based on a life of a legendary singer and we’ve stuck to reality as much as we could. Technically it’s different and there’s no back flips and super human activities… and no crying and singing at the same time.

What are the major drawbacks that you find in our current movies… You know the mainstream ones!!

Before I forget wanted to ask you something, some of the film makers believe that the real film making is when it’s done on celluloid technology. What do you think about this?

For me it’s not what we use… It’s how we use it… I believe real filmmaking is all about telling a good story in an interesting manner. Celluloid and digital formats are like King and Prince… The Prince becomes a King one day and the previous King retires… and we’re not very far from that day… Wake up guys before you all get left behind by kids…

Our visitors would love to know about the making of the ‘Acharya’, tell us about it!

We’ve only finished the first half of the game… The film is yet to be edited. Few things that we’ve especially taken care of are, Acting, Make up, Lighting, shot styles, script etc… Now let’s see what’ll be different in the post production…

Also tell us about your involvement in the movie ‘Kagbeni’! Tell us about your responsibility that you had in the movie!

It’s been four years since I started working on Kagbeni… I joined the team as a screenwriter and later started getting involved in almost all the departments. So basically I did lil’ bit of everything I guess… NOT THE POST PRODUCTION BIT (I swear I wasn’t there)…

You were also working in a movie titled ‘Crossroads’, what happened with that?

Gone with the wind I guess… Didn’t happen when it was supposed to happen and now I don’t know when… Or maybe someday…

Tell us about your experience in Bollywood! You were asst. directing the movie named ‘Kites’ starring Hrithik Roshan. Tell us about it!

After reaching the finals of gateway to Hollywood on Sony Pix, Anurag Basu offered me a film which he would produce. Meanwhile he was also working on Kites, so he offered me to join Kites as an Asst. Director and I did… and now the film is ready for release…

Anything you’d like to say before we wrap up?
Thanks…
